| Examples of University-based activities that may be subject
to specific export licensing requirements include the following: |
- Restricted “Input”—Sponsored
research where the sponsor provides information or materials to the
research participants that is proprietary, access-restricted or otherwise
subject to limitations on dissemination.
- Restricted “Output”—Sponsored
research where the research results are subject to publication restrictions,
such as pre-publication review requirements.
- Restricted Participation—Sponsored
research where the sponsor imposes restrictions on the participation
of Foreign Nationals.
- Intent Not to Publish—Any other research
program where the participants, for any reason, do not intend to publish
or freely disseminate their research results.
- Physical Exports—Research programs
involving the physical or electronic shipment of research equipment,
software or restricted technical data outside the United States.
- Foreign Technical Assistance—Collaborative
research programs involving the training or provision of technical
assistance to a Foreign National outside the United States.
- Military Applications—Research programs
relating to specific military applications.
- Sanctioned Countries—Any activities
involving countries, entities or individuals subject to U.S. economic
sanctions.

In these situations, the University may be required to
request U.S. Government licenses to engage in certain activities, such
as: |
- Participation by Foreign National students and University employees
in export controlled research.
- Releases of controlled technical data to Foreign Persons, either
in United States or abroad.
- Visits by Foreign Nationals to laboratories where controlled research
is being conducted.
- Transfers of controlled equipment to locations outside the United
States.
- Collaborative research with foreign entities.
