Compliance Hotline: (213) 740-2500

The Help & Hotline is a number that all USC faculty, staff and students can use to ask questions about applicable laws, regulations and university policies that may impact their job duties.

The Help and Hotline also can be used to report suspected violations of law confidentially and without fear of retribution. Anyone who has knowledge or a good faith belief that an applicable law, regulation, or university policy has been violated, should report such information to the Help and Hotline at (213)740-2500.

How to use the Compliance Help and Hotline

The Help and Hotline is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

If you wish to report a violation and feel comfortable doing so, bring the question or matter to the attention of your supervisor, chair, or Dean directly; OR

Call the USC Help and Hotline at 213-740-2500 , and ask your question or report the nature of the suspected problem.

    • While it is preferable to identify yourself so the information can be investigated thoroughly and promptly, you also may report anonymously if you feel more comfortable doing so.
    • Reports to the Help and Hotline are kept confidential, to the maximum extent possible.
    • Calls are not recorded, nor can they be traced back to the caller.
    • Employers are not allowed to retaliate against employees who provide confidential information in good faith regarding possible illegal activities in the workplace.
    • Employers are not allowed to retaliate against an employee for refusing to participate in an activity that would result in a violation of a state or federal statute, or a violation or noncompliance with a state or federal rule or regulation.
    • The Attorney General’s Office for the State of California also has a Hotline that may be reached at (800) 952-5225.

How does the Help & Hotline work?

When you call the Help & Hotline, you will hear an automated message asking the nature of your call.

    • Helpline questions will be referred directly to the Office of Compliance.
    • Hotline questions will be referred immediately to a staff member in the Office of Compliance. Callers will be asked to describe the nature of the suspected problem at that time.
    • Anonymous callers to the Help & Hotline will be provided access to a restricted mail box whereby they may communicate with a member of the compliance office staff.
    • All hotline calls are investigated thoroughly and promptly.
    • THAT IS ALL THERE IS TO IT!

What questions might prompt a call to the Help & Hotline?

    • Is there university guidance, policy or practice that relates to a particular job function that I perform?
    • Have I been asked to perform an activity that may violate an applicable law, regulation or university policy or may simply feel wrong?
    • Are there other departments and units on campus that could serve as a resource to help me do my job better?
